Last but not least: Look me in the eye
Humans and animals are more similar than you might think. For example, did you know that half of your genes are the same as those of a chicken?
This is less surprising than the 90 percent match of our DNA with dogs. And cats. That is only five percent less than in chimpanzees (where it is 95 percent and not 98.5 percent as previously assumed). The bottom line can be summarized as follows: People are similar and should treat each other accordingly (for example, with a minimum level of respect). A campaign by the Australian agency Engine for the animal welfare organization RSPCA reminds us of this: at first glance, the animals with human eyes look strange, but not clearly wrong. In terms of intelligence, a pig can compete with a toddler - but in most cases it is treated like a pig. Not that you have to like the campaign for that reason - but it's nice to talk about it again.
