TV ratings: Lauberhorn downhill top

On June 18, Mediapulse released the data on the television and advertising markets. This means that the publication ban on Publisuisse has been lifted. This allows the advertising sales agency to publish the TV viewership data for the first quarter of 2013.

The Mediapulse Board of Directors made the decision to release the data shortly after the Higher Court of the Canton of Nidwalden lifted the super-provisional injunction obtained by TV station 3+ on June 11 (Werbewoche.ch reported). Previously, the Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (Uvek) and two independent expert reports had already analyzed the new measurement system and given it a largely positive assessment. Proposed optimization measures are currently being examined by Mediapulse and, if appropriate, implemented. This will again result in a slight change in the measurement figures for the first half of the year. Nevertheless, the key figures are available without restriction with immediate effect. "We have been working towards this moment with great dedication over the last few months. Data is the foundation of our business model. Without this data, we as well as our customers are flying blind. The situation was unacceptable," says Martin Schneider, CEO of Publisuisse.

SRG programs remain market leaders

The TV figures published by Publisuisse clearly show that SRG programs are the first choice throughout Switzerland, according to the statement. The quality programs of SRF, RTS and RSI are clear market leaders both in primetime and over the course of the day.

Ski World Cup - the TV ratings highlight

The absolute TV highlight in the first quarter of 2013 was "Alpine Skiing, World Cup, Downhill, Men. The famous downhill race on the Lauberhorn gave SRG dream ratings, with a market share of 74.4 percent in the 15-59 target group (rating 15-59 471,400). The second and third most-watched programs were "Meteo" from January 13 (market share 15-59 40.4 percent Ø rating 15-59 456,700) and SRF Tatort "Schmutziger Donnerstag" (market share 15-59 32.0 percent rating 15-59 432,100). The SRF crime series "Der Bestatter" was also extremely well received by TV audiences across all episodes (average market share 15-59 36.8 percent and average rating 15-59 376,500). Among the young target audience, "Voice of Switzerland" was particularly successful (Ø market share 15-59 34.1 percent and 15-39 36.7 percent; Ø rating 15-59 339,400 and 15-39 137,500). The first show not from SRG programming was "Ich bin ein Star - Holt mich hier raus" on RTL CH, at #520.

Time-shifted usage mainly for SRG channels

With the new panel, operated by Kantar, Switzerland has one of the most modern TV measurement panels in the world. The new data also includes usage data from "modern" households, for example with smart TV sets, as well as households that can only watch TV via computer. In addition, time-shifted TV consumption is now collected and reported. Although time-shifted use is low, SRG programs were also accessed extraordinarily often in time-shifted mode. This means that Publisuisse, with SRF, RTS and RSI, has the programs with the strongest advertising blocks throughout Switzerland.
