Der Landbote: Tamedia interested in takeover
Tamedia has held a 20 percent stake in the Landbote for some time now. Should the newspaper be sold, the Tamedia Group is interested in acquiring it, as Finanzen.ch reported on Friday.
The Winterthur Landbote is an integral part of the Zurich regional newspaper network. This was stated by Tamedia Chairman of the Board of Directors Pietro Supino according to Finances.ch in an interview with Bilanz (issue 11/2013). However, he did not want to confirm whether Tamedia actually has a right of first refusal. "If you know us, you would almost have to assume that. But we don't talk about that," was his answer.
Supino's response to the sale of the financial newspaper Finanz und Wirtschaft FuW was clearer: "There are no plans to sell FuW". Due to the dramatic decline in financial advertisements, FuW had become a restructuring case, he said. However, the team has succeeded in achieving a turnaround. The paper is now well positioned again and there are no plans for a further round of savings.
Media oversupply
According to Finanzen.ch, Supino expects further consolidation in the newspaper sector in the future. There is a colossal oversupply of media in Switzerland. In his opinion, there will be fewer paid daily newspapers in the future. "And those that remain will have to sharpen their profile and deliver on their promise of quality on all channels," he says.
In French-speaking Switzerland, Tamedia has recently come under fire in connection with cost-cutting efforts (Werbewoche.ch reported). According to Finanzen.ch, Supino continues to believe in Le Matin's raison d'être: "We have the ambition to find a sustainable business model for the newspaper. I hope that we will succeed."
