Bollmann's plans for the Baz

Rolf Bollmann has been the managing director of Basler Zeitung Medien since September 2012. He spoke with the NZZ am Sonntag about his plans for the Baz.

Circulation of the Baz fell by more than 10 percent in 2012, Rolf Bollmann told the NZZ am Sonntag. He assumes that this decline in circulation will be reflected in the next readership figures in the fall of 2013. However, this should mean that the low point has been reached: there are some indications that circulation will at least stabilize, Bollmann added. However, he does not want to reveal to NZZ am Sonntag how he intends to break the downward trend. This remains his secret. At least it is clear that something has to happen.

However, Bollmann is convinced in an interview with the NZZ am Sonntag that the quality of the newspaper has clearly increased. Critical Basel residents and even enemies of Christoph Blocher would say the same. Today, he says, the Baz is an open forum newspaper and no longer a left-wing paper.

The cooperation with Tamedia (Werbewoche.ch reported) in no way means that the Baz will no longer remain independent, Bollmann emphasizes. Since the cooperation with Tamedia is of central importance to Basler Zeitung Medien, he also does not rule out entering into further cooperations with Tamedia or other partners.
