Third Swiss Media Forum

Following two previous conferences, the Swiss Media Forum will take place for the third time on May 23–24, 2013. Representatives from the media, business, and politics—both from Switzerland and abroad—will gather at the KKL Luzern.

The Swiss Media Forum will be opened by Alan Rusbridger, Editor-in-Chief of the Guardian. He will talk about the newspaper's online strategy, which ranks third worldwide on the Internet and does not want to buck the trend and introduce a paywall. ETH professor Markus Gross, head of the Disney Lab, who has just received a "Technology Oscar," will talk about the rapid pace of technological change and its opportunities.

Former German President Christian Wulff, who has not spoken publicly since his resignation, will also appear. Zurich President Josef Ackermann, professional cyclist Fabian Cancellara and Swiss Life CEO Bruno Pfister will discuss how they deal with and experience the media and how to communicate and lead in the age of transparency.

Key representatives of the Swiss media industry will also appear, such as publishers Pietro Supino (Tamedia), Peter Wanner (AZ Medien), editors-in-chief Rolf Cavalli (Blick.ch), Ariane Dayer (Le Matin Dimanche), Res Strehle (Tages-Anzeiger) and Peer Teuwsen (Die Zeit Schweiz). They talk about the challenges facing the industry. Johanna Blakley, media researcher at the University of Southern California, will talk about how social media is changing society and our relationships. And Philip Evans of the Boston Consulting Group (author of "Blown to bits") will talk about the development parallels to other industries.

The Swiss Media Forum lasts two half-days and is moderated by Susanne Wille (SRF). It begins on Thursday at 12:15 p.m. with lunch and ends on Friday, also at noon. The registration deadline is March 31.
