Swiss media composers found professional association
On December 8, 2012, leading Swiss media composers founded the Swiss Media Composers Association (Smeca) in Zurich. The goal of this new professional association is to unite, represent, and support composers of commissioned music for media use.
In Switzerland, music composed specifically for films, advertising, games, websites or television is becoming increasingly important. Smeca wants to standardize and improve the working conditions of creators of media music. Among the most important contacts of the new professional association are the collecting societies and the producers' associations. A 13-member Smeca board represents the entire spectrum of media music in German- and French-speaking Switzerland. For the implementation of its goals, the board relies on the specially founded office.
In the future, clients will benefit from simply designed industry recommendations for minimum fees, production costs, rights of use and standard contracts at the Smeca association. As of February 2013, the website will serve as a hub for members, producers and partner organizations. Smeca.ch.
