Telesuisse calls for better framework conditions

The framework conditions for Swiss regional television must be improved. That was the general consensus at this year’s general meeting of Telesuisse, the Association of Swiss Regional Television Stations, which took place on Friday in Bern.

Although the regional television stations are well anchored in their regions and provide an indispensable daily public service, the economic situation is not easy for the broadcasters. This was also shown by a recently published study by Publicom, which was commissioned by the Federal Office of Communications Bakom together with the associations of private radio and television stations, Telesuisse wrote in a statement on Friday. Therefore, Telesuisse demands from authorities and politicians that everything is done to improve the framework conditions for regional television stations. This is the only way to maintain and expand the quality of regional television reporting.

The upcoming revision of the Radio and Television Act (RTVA) is of great importance. The new Vice Director and Head of the Radio and Television Department at Bakom, Nancy Wayland Bigler, explained the federal government's ideas on this at the Telesuisse meeting.

Changes at Telesuisse in the Board of Directors
In order to be able to devote himself fully to his task as the upcoming President of the Council of States, the previous, long-standing Telesuisse President Filippo Lombardi has resigned. However, he remains available to the association as a member of the board. The presidency will be taken over by the current vice president André Moesch, head of electronic media at the St. Galler Tagblatt. Christophe Rasch (La Télé) was elected as Vice President and Marc Friedli (Tele M1, Tele Bärn) as a further member of the Board. Sabrina Carron is the new managing director of the association.
