Eastern Switzerland Radio and Television Prize goes to Friedrich Kappeler

Friedrich Kappeler, a documentary filmmaker from Frauenfeld, has been awarded the 2012 Radio and Television Prize by SRG Ostschweiz. Kappeler, who, among other works, directed the 2002 film «Mani Matter – Warum syt Dir so truurig,» is being honored for his body of work.

The prize, endowed with CHF 10,000, will be presented in Frauenfeld after the summer vacations, as announced by the Thurgau State Chancellery on Monday. The prize money is donated by the cantons of Eastern Switzerland.

Born in 1949, Kappeler has made short films, a television feature film and eight feature-length documentaries, most of them in co-production with Swiss television. In 2004, he also portrayed the clown Dimitri.

According to the communiqué, Kappeler's films are of great poetic power. They are untrendy and old-fashioned in the best sense of the word, with an inner calm and give the characters and actions the necessary space for depth of content. (SDA)
