UPC Cablecom must include Joiz in the analog network

The Federal Supreme Court has dismissed UPC Cablecom's appeal against OFCOM's decision to require the channel to be carried. UPC Cablecom is therefore required to carry the Joiz television channel on its analog cable network and in HD.

With the ruling of the Federal Court, the decision of the Federal Office of Communications Bakom and the ruling of the Federal Administrative Court are confirmed and should now finally be implemented, the youth channel said in a statement on Monday: Joiz must also be broadcast in analog and HD by UPC Cablecom from June 26 at the latest. The Federal Court has thereby right in all relevant points of the first two instances. UPC Cablecom is obliged to broadcast Joiz for three years in digital (SD and HD) as well as on its analog cable network.

The Federal Court's ruling is a further confirmation for Joiz, says Alexander Mazzara, CEO of Joiz. And it is a victory for the young generation of media users in Switzerland, he added. Joiz has been working with Swiss youth associations since the start of the broadcast. Ivica Petrusic, managing director of the cantonal child and youth promotion organization Okaj, is correspondingly pleased: "We are of course delighted with the verdict. It confirms our commitment and we are happy that we can show our work to a broad public."
