Urs Paul Engeler is "Journalist of the Year

Urs Paul Engeler, *Die Weltwoche*«s Federal Parliament correspondent, has been named this year’s »Journalist of the Year.” He won an online poll conducted by the industry magazine *Schweizer Journalist*.

Engeler was elected by an "unusually large margin," according to a statement. The 61-year-old had caused a stir with research on the SVP's candidate for the Federal Council in Zurich, Bruno Zuppiger. Zuppiger eventually withdrew his candidacy. Two TV journalists from the consumer program "Kassensturz" made it to second place: Ursula Gabathuler and Roger Müller. They were honored for their research into the Coop meat scandal. Freelance journalist Hanspeter Guggenbühl was named third best journalist for his reporting on the nuclear phase-out and energy issues.

In addition to "Journalist of the Year", the best were selected in various categories: as best political journalist was also awarded to Urs Paul Engeler. Reto Lipp from Swiss Television (SF) received the prize of the best business journalistsKarin Wenger (Swiss Radio DRS), those of the best reporter. Go to best editor in chief was Susan Boos of the weekly newspaper. Best cultural journalist is Jean-Martin Büttner (Tages-Anzeiger). The "Newcomer of the Year" is Jonas Projer, SF foreign correspondent in Brussels. This category includes journalists who are under 30 years old. To "Sports Journalist of the Year was won by Fredy Wettstein (Tages-Anzeiger/Sonntags-Zeitung), while the prize for best science journalist went to Reto U. Schneider (NZZ Folio). In the category "Columnist of the Year" Kurt W. Zimmermann (Weltwoche) received the most votes.

More than 1,500 media professionals took part in the online vote.
