Serbian news agency Tanjug awarded quality prize
The Serbian news agency Tanjug has won the «Award for Excellence in News Agency Quality.» The agency received the prize, worth 1,000 euros, for its «exemplary transition» from a state-run to a private agency.
The European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) announced on Friday that the agency had succeeded in adapting to the requirements of a rapidly changing media landscape with a broader range of services. With the reorganization, Tanjug has made a major contribution to strengthening independent media in Serbia, said EANA President Mika Pettersson at the General Assembly in Geneva.
The leading news agencies of 31 European countries are represented in EANA. The Bern-based alliance was founded in 1956. According to its own statements, its main concern is to ensure freedom of the press and independent reporting through "suitable economic and legal framework conditions". (SDA)
