Stern: Augmented reality edition launched

To coincide with the IFA international consumer electronics trade show, *Der Stern* is launching an issue that lets readers experience new digital technologies firsthand. Using augmented reality, readers with smartphones can access additional content.

If you point the camera of your smartphone at the front page, a three-dimensional animation is superimposed on the page and presents readers with four of the 15 articles with additional AR content. In the magazine, a smartphone icon then points to the articles with augmented reality content. This ranges from graphics that build up directly on the cell phone display to an animated version of the popular Tetsche cartoon and an exclusive preview of Udo Lindenberg's new DVD. The cover story on the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 in New York is supplemented by an interview with the brother of one of the pilots of the hijacked planes.

According to Horizont.net, the Stern-Journal for the IFA also contains a large report that shows how augmented reality can be used in everyday life.
