Bernerbär: Editor-in-chief Matthias Mast leaves free newspaper

Matthias Mast, editor-in-chief of the Bernerbär, is leaving the free newspaper at the end of February 2012. He has decided to take on a new challenge but will continue to write for the Bernerbär as a columnist.

The 49-year-old has headed the editorial department of the Bernese people and event newspaper since November 1999, writes Espace Media in a statement on Monday. Over the past twelve years, he has played a key role in the further development of the newspaper. As editor-in-chief, he has sharpened the newspaper's journalistic profile and was most recently responsible for its successful relaunch last summer. After the introduction of the new design and the successful changeover to one issue per week, Matthias Mast now wants to hand over the editorship to new hands.

Matthias Mast started his journalistic career at Teletext. After joining the then Berner Tagblatt Medien AG in 1990, he worked, among other things, as a presenter and producer at Tele Bärn and was both editor and presenter at the then Radio Extra Bern.

The free newspaper Bernerbär, which belongs to Espace Media, is published every Tuesday with a circulation of 100'000 copies. The focus is on the people of Bern, whose appearances the Bernerbär reports on "every week" in a colorful, tongue-in-cheek and sometimes also
polarizing" reports.
