Ringier: definitely drops out of takeover talks for Tele Züri
Ringier has definitively withdrawn from the talks regarding a takeover of Tele Züri. Escor Casinos & Entertainment has also withdrawn from the negotiations.
Ringier announced on Monday that it had "not reached agreement with the negotiating partners on all too decisive and essential points," according to SDA. In recent months, the dossiers of several private TV stations had been examined "conscientiously and meticulously" and talks had been held in particular with the owners of 3+ and Tele Züri. According to Ringier, its own TV channel would complement the media company's current media portfolio and the TV activities of the "Ringier Entertainment Television" division in an "ideal way." Now, Ringier management has decided to end the takeover and purchase talks. The company is not disclosing the reason for this step. The partners have agreed not to disclose the concrete and detailed background, the statement says.
Escor Casinos & Entertainment SA, which operates in the gaming industry, also dropped out of the negotiations with Tamedia. It had submitted an overall offer to the Group for the stations Tele Züri, Tele Bärn and the radio stations Radio 24 (Zurich) and Capital FM (Berne). However, Tamedia described the offer as "far too low", confirmed Escor Chairman of the Board Martin Wagner on Monday. Reports from various Sunday newspapers. When Tamedia asked him to "improve" his offer, he refused.
In order to exist commercially, the purchase of all Tamedia stations would have been a prerequisite, Wagner justified his overall offer. Wagner's goal would have been to establish a joint advertising market pool with the electronic Basel media, such as Telebasel, Radio Baslisk or Radio Basel.
Tamedia spokesman Christoph Zimmer did not want to comment. As a matter of principle, Tamedia does not disclose details of the sales process, he said in response to an inquiry from SDA.
