Realignment of Master Film at the Zurich University of the Arts - New Director as of Fall 2012
A series of measures has been adopted to further strengthen film education at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). The goals are to focus on the program’s content, expand internationalization, streamline collaborations, secure funding, and obtain a definitive operating license, which is still pending.
Part of these measures is the appointment of an internationally recognized artist and filmmaker as the new director of the Master of Film program. The university management has appointed the Swiss director Markus Imboden as the new head of the Master's program in Film as of fall 2012. Markus Imboden has been a lecturer in the ZHdK's Film department since 2008. As the future director, he stands for the increased focus of Zurich's film education on narrative film - fiction and documentary -, film acting and acting direction. Imboden, who has made more than 30 feature films for German and Swiss television and for the cinema, is a Grimme Award winner and a member of the German and Swiss Film Academies; his films - including "Ausgerechnet Zoé," "Katzendiebe," "Hunger auf Leben," and "Mörder auf Amrum" - have won numerous awards.
Lucie Bader and Marille Hahne, who have built up and managed the Master's program in Film over the past few years, will continue their management activities until the end of the semester in summer 2012. They have been committed both to the Switzerland-wide networking of film education in the Cinema Schweiz network and to ensuring that the films made at the ZHdK were shown at national and international festivals. The films thus reached a broad audience and regularly won awards. They were also successful in raising third-party funds to finance the diploma productions. Lucie Bader and Marille Hahne will continue to be active in teaching and will supervise further projects as part of the reorientation of film education.
