Bertelsmann: profits soar

Bertelsmann, Europe's largest media conglomerate, has finally put the advertising crisis behind it. The company posted one of the best results in its history.

After only just making a profit of 35 million euros in 2009, Bertelsmann's consolidated net profit shot up to 656 million euros last year. The Group thus significantly exceeded its own forecasts. Turnover rose by 4.5 percent to 15.8 billion euros, as CEO Hartmut Ostrowski said in Berlin on Tuesday. "This development was driven by the general economic recovery, particularly in the advertising markets." (SDA)
