Murdoch launches iPad newspaper
Today, Wednesday, media mogul Rupert Murdoch launched his iPad newspaper, *The Daily*. The digital publication is intended to provide news, analysis, and feature stories.
The content is produced specifically for Apple's iPad tablet computer. "New times need new journalism," said the 79-year-old, who forged his media empire as a newspaper publisher. The content for the newspaper, which was specially developed for the iPad, is provided by an editorial team of around 120 people. It breaks with previous conventions in the media industry, if only because iPad manufacturer Apple is heavily involved and wants a share of the cake. In return, the high costs for printing and distribution that arise with a print newspaper are eliminated.
Murdoch is regarded as one of the pioneers of change in the media landscape. He was one of the first to demand money from the online readers of his traditional newspaper titles. News Corp. owns the Wall Street Journal, as well as the Times and Sun in London. Murdoch also controls the film studio 20th Century Fox, the Fox television channels and pay channels such as Sky Deutschland.
