The St.Galler Tagblatt (SGT) is merging its two titles Bodensee Tagblatt (14,000 copies) and Mittelthurgauer Tagblatt (1,600 copies) in the canton of Thurgau at the end of September. This was confirmed by SGT Managing Director Hans-Peter Klauser on request. The SGT will also be given a new layout at the end of September. In addition, the new printing center in St.Gallen Winkeln will be put into operation. SGT Publishing Director Daniel Ehrat emphasized that the merger of the Thurgau newspaper titles was neither a cost-cutting measure nor a withdrawal in installments, but a change made possible by more modern printing technology. Although there will only be one SGT split in Thurgau in future, it will comprise at least 15,600 copies and have different sequences of bundles depending on the region. Ehrat did not want to confirm that the new title would simply be called "Tagblatt". However, he did say that "Tagblatt" would remain part of the name. The number of editors in Thurgau will remain more or less the same, but it is possible that some editorial offices will be changed. (mk)
