Kanal 1 TV is currently working on its license application for its station

Kanal 1 TV is currently tinkering with the license application for its stationBy Markus Knöpfli One day, the Kanal 1 TV project will cover the entire German-speaking region. But how and in what timeframe this goal is to be achieved remains completely unclear. Thomas Sadecky, the managing director for Switzerland, is currently working on the license application for Bakom.
The Austrian Kanal 1 TV Group, owned by the brothers Erwin and Hanno Soravia, took over the "conurbation" station TV München two months ago and bought the TV 3 studio in Schlieren in Switzerland. In addition, the former business editor of Moneycab, Thomas Sadecky, was appointed managing director for the Swiss branch and charged with the foundation of two companies: Kanal 1 TV AG and U1 TV Programm AG, each with a share capital (AK) of 100000 francs and based in Schlieren.
Sadecky wants to create own formats with channel 1
Sadecky, who has headed the investment company TST Qualitäts-Aktien Investor AG (AK: 2.2 million Swiss francs) since 1999, holds "a small percentage" in the newly founded companies, as he says, but not through TST. Nevertheless, he is the only authorized signatory in each case. Thirdly, at the beginning of September, Sadecky appointed Patrick Schneider (Technology) and Sandra Tuttlies (Marketing), two former
TV-3 employees hired.
At the moment, however, Sadecky is working on the license application, which he plans to submit in mid-September. According to his plans, Kanal 1 Schweiz should be able to launch in spring 2003 - with an eight-hour full program for the "core target group" of 20- to 45-year-olds. The program mix would consist of sports, entertainment, news, Swiss feature films and reality shows, which would be conceived and produced by the Kanal 1 Group itself.
Among other things, he mentions the show "Beggar and Millionaire," which will soon be launched on TV Munich and could also be adapted for Switzerland. He does not (yet) want to say what budget Channel 1 will work with, what market shares it will achieve in terms of viewers and advertising money, and by when it will break even in Switzerland. And how does he plan to get around the problem of TV 3 (blessedly), which laboriously shimmied from one expensive ratings highlight to another ("Robinson," "Big Brother"), but only showed lulls in its full program? Sadecky forbids himself to make comparisons with TV 3 and points out that Kanal 1 will create its own formats instead of buying expensive feature films and licenses and can also use synergies with TV München. In addition, Kanal 1 will specifically promote young Swiss talent.
Even if Kanal 1 can start in Switzerland, the idea of covering the entire German-speaking region is still a long way off: In Austria, Kanal 1 does not have a license in sight, and in Germany, with TV München, it "only" has a local station. The latter is also part of the "Ballungsraum-TV" network, which cooperates even more closely than TeleNewsCombi.
A short-term reorientation to Switzerland and Austria is therefore hardly possible. Sadecky sees things differently: "In terms of programming, we can cooperate with TV München as closely as we see fit." Furthermore, he refers to the Austrian overall project manager Peter Kölbel. But he cannot be reached.
