In doubt for Lombardi

Associations Despite circulation falsification, Filippo Lombardi does not have to fear for Telesuisse presidency At last, the Ticino CVP member of parliament Filippo Lombardi has admitted that in 1994 and 1995 the circulation figures for the Giornale del Popolo (GdP) were overstated by 1000 and 2000 copies respectively. And Lombardi, then editor-in-chief of the GdP, was at least an accomplice. On 17 May, he took responsibility - to exonerate the employees involved and because the responsible board delegate was no longer able to act due to illness, as Lombardi stated in a communiqué.Lombardi, who presides over the private TV association Telesuisse, was already guilty of several serious traffic offenses. But this is the first time he has admitted to a mistake in the media sector. Will this cost him his post as Telesuisse president?
Hardly. Markus Ruoss and Claude Alain Stettler from the Telesuisse Board of Directors see "no need for action". And top boss Günter Heuberger is even "unreservedly" behind him. Jean-Pierre Pastori from the Lausanne TVRL expressed a similar view.
Others are more cautious. Norbert Neininger from Schaffhauser TV wants to speak to Lombardi first, Südostschweiz boss Hanspeter Lebrument is waiting for the next Telesuisse members' meeting and Tele Züri boss Andreas Meili is waiting for the outcome of the Ticino investigation. Hanspeter Klauser, Chairman of the Board of Directors of TeleOstschweiz: "As long as Lombardi is still acceptable in other public offices or he himself does not draw any consequences, we see no reason to suspend him as Telesuisse President." There were no calls for his resignation; on the contrary, Lombardi's commitment to private TV was praised.
