Media Prize AG/SO: AZ, Radio 32 and SF honored
The 12th Aargau/Solothurn Media Prize with a prize money of CHF 12,000 goes to Sabine Altorfer (Aargauer Zeitung) and Marco Jaggi (Radio 32) as well as Hanspeter Bäni and Nicole Vögele (both Schweizer Fernsehen). There was no prize in the newly launched photography category.
Culture editor Sabine Altorfer received the award for the series "Leuchttürme" (Lighthouses), in which she shed light on cultural policy in Aargau. A radio report on the last ride on the old chairlift up Solothurn's local mountain, Weissenstein, earned journalist Marco Jaggi the media prize. At the award ceremony in Olten SO, the jury honored TV reporter Hanspeter Bäni for the fourth time. He was honored for his report "Caring until death", which was broadcast on Swiss television. In the TV category, journalist Nicole Vögele also received the award for her short report on breakdancers. The report was shown on the SF news program "10 vor 10".
Photos not convincing
The expert jury, headed by President Peter Schellenberg, had to assess a total of 100 entries. The prize in the photography category, which was announced for the first time, was not awarded. The quality of the entries did not yet fully convince the jury, as the Aargau/Solothurn Media Prize Association writes in a press release. The pictures "could not completely avoid the accusation of arbitrariness".
The media prize is awarded by the media companies based in the cantons of Aargau and Solothurn and by the two cantonal governments. The aim of the prize is to recognize and promote journalistic quality in regional reporting.
