Coop's seventh «Day of Good Deeds» is mobilizing Switzerland
On May 30, 2026, Coop held its «Day of Good Deeds» for the seventh time. Together with six main partners, Coop organized around 400 hands-on activities; at the same time, approximately 780 organizations across Switzerland got involved. In addition, 25,000 donation packages were purchased at Coop stores, and old cell phones were collected at Interdiscount locations.
Hands-On Activities with a Big Impact on «Good Deeds Day»
Through approximately 400 hands-on activities, Coop, together with its main partners, encouraged the Swiss public to get involved in social and environmental causes. According to the press release, various initiatives aimed to raise awareness of the everyday barriers faced by people with disabilities and to foster dialogue on the topic. Clean-ups, composting workshops, and the construction of nesting aids are also said to have contributed to biodiversity and environmental protection. Thanks to the efforts of numerous volunteers, food was also saved and donated to social institutions. At approximately 80 Coop stores, customers were also able to refresh their first-aid knowledge.
The Swiss Gymnastics Federation joined the existing main partners—the Swiss Red Cross, WWF Switzerland, Schweizer Tafel, the Swiss Scout Movement, and Pro Infirmis—this year. Its members are said to have enriched the campaign day with activities designed to promote physical activity, among other things.
About 780 organizations got involved inside and outside Coop stores, bringing joy to the local community through their efforts—for example, by helping people with their shopping or giving away homemade cakes. «The seventh »Day of Good Deeds’ has once again shown just how much good the Swiss public and we, as a cooperative, can achieve together through volunteer work,” emphasizes Philipp Wyss, Chairman of the Executive Board at Coop.
Successful Fundraisers and a New Cell Phone Drive
Once again this year, Coop customers were able to purchase donation packages, which were distributed to people affected by poverty in Switzerland in collaboration with Schweizer Tafel. A total of 25,000 packages, worth more than 500,000 Swiss francs, were donated. Fundraising for charitable causes also took place at most Coop stores and Coop City department stores, with proceeds going to local organizations, the St. Jakob Foundation, and the Basel Society for Work and Housing, among others.
For the first time, customers were also able to turn in old cell phones at Interdiscount. The devices collected throughout Switzerland will be refurbished to give them a second life or recycled. According to the press release, all proceeds will benefit families affected by poverty in Switzerland in collaboration with the Swiss Red Cross.
