Newsroom Summit Switzerland: Debut on October 21 in Bern

Switzerland’s first Newsroom Summit will bring together leaders from corporate newsrooms, communications agencies, and media companies on October 21, 2026. Held in the conference rooms of the Hotel Kreuz in Bern, this compact conference aims to foster genuine dialogue, inspiration, and practical solutions for newsroom work.

Behind the event is a four-member organizing committee: Benjamin Blaser, co-founder of the Bern-based agency Newsroom Communication, Stephan Weber, former SRF TV correspondent and current head of the newsroom at energy producer Axpo; Martina Rettenmund, head of planning and channels at SBB; and Michael Blum, head of the newsroom at energy and infrastructure group BKW. Axpo, SBB, BKW, and Newsroom Communication are founding partners of the event.

«The topic of newsrooms has gained enormous significance across all industries in Switzerland in recent years. That’s why it’s a logical step to bring the industry together,» says Blaser. Weber describes the intended nature of the event in pragmatic terms: «Our goal is to bring people together in a casual setting. We’re definitely more in the »coffee to go’ category than the ‘exclusive media dinner’.”

Practical Answers to Real Challenges

For many companies, the corporate newsroom has long since become a strategic tool—but in practice, specific questions quickly arise: What does the ideal organizational structure look like? How do you manage multilingual, cross-regional communication? Which tools are truly the right fit—and what impact does artificial intelligence have?

The Newsroom Summit addresses precisely these challenges from various perspectives. Among the invited guests are newsroom expert Marie-Christine Schindler, who has helped various communications teams in Switzerland set up such structures, and Christoph Moss, who is considered a pioneer of newsroom theory and the developer of the corporate newsroom model in the DACH region.

A format that stands out from traditional conferences

The program for the Newsroom Summit Switzerland is aimed at both newcomers to newsrooms and experienced communications professionals and newsroom experts. In addition to various breakout sessions and a panel discussion, the event offers plenty of opportunities for networking. Two highlights stand out: an exclusive firsthand account by Stephanie Jutzi, Head of Integrated Communications and Public Affairs at SRG, and an in-depth examination of Switzerland’s first scientifically grounded newsroom study, which, according to the press release, is set to be published shortly.
