The Geomarketing Picture of the Month for April shows the regional distribution of purchasing power in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in 2026. The latest figures from NIQ Geomarketing not only illustrate the differences between the German-speaking countries, but also the sometimes considerable differences within the respective nations.
Switzerland with a clear lead
With an average per capita purchasing power of EUR 54,730, the Swiss will once again have significantly more financial resources for consumption and saving than the population in neighboring German-speaking countries in 2026. In Austria, per capita purchasing power is EUR 31,454, while Germans have an average of EUR 31,193 at their disposal.

Significant regional differences
However, there are not only clear differences between countries - the spending potential also varies considerably from region to region within the respective nations.
In Switzerland, the district of Höfe takes the top spot by a wide margin: Residents there have an average of 144,630 euros per capita at their disposal. This is almost 3.6 times the purchasing power of Entlebuch, the constituency with the lowest purchasing power, where the figure is 39,980 euros.

In Austria, the 1st district of Vienna (Innere Stadt) leads the ranking with a per capita purchasing power of EUR 44,096. At the lower end of the scale is the 20th district of Vienna (Brigittenau) with EUR 24,720. In Germany, the district of Starnberg takes first place with a spending potential of EUR 42,751, while Gelsenkirchen is in last place with EUR 24,538 per inhabitant.
