Baselland Cantonal Hospital and Arlesheim Clinic launch "Hospital at home" campaign

The «Hospital at Home» care model is now being promoted in the canton of Basel-Landschaft under the name «Spital zuhause.» The Baselland Cantonal Hospital and the Arlesheim Clinic are launching a joint campaign to raise awareness about hospital-quality care provided in a familiar environment. The campaign was conceived by Farner Basel.

The internationally established «Hospital at Home» model provides hospital-quality care in the patient’s own home. In the canton of Basel-Landschaft, the service is now offered under the name «Spital zuhause» and provides medical, nursing, and therapeutic care at the hospital level—either in the patient’s familiar surroundings or in a facility such as a retirement or nursing home.

The Arlesheim Clinic developed the care model and has been offering it since 2023. The Baselland Cantonal Hospital (KSBL) piloted the program in the Laufental region in 2025 and has been offering it on a regular basis ever since. Starting March 2, both hospitals will launch a joint campaign to inform the public and referring physicians about how hospital-equivalent treatment at home works, its eligibility requirements, and its benefits.

Strategy Combines Expertise and Security

Strategically, the campaign focuses on the tension between medical safety and emotional comfort. The hospital stands for expertise, while home stands for closeness, autonomy, and peace of mind. «Hospital at Home» combines both—on both a functional and an emotional level.

The campaign concept translates this connection into a tagline that is as simple as it is striking: «Welcome to the ward …». Friendship. Family. Sofa. Terms that aren’t typically associated with a hospital—yet they highlight precisely the qualities that characterize treatment in a familiar setting. Visually, the campaign focuses on familiar everyday moments rather than clinical aesthetics.

Integrated Health Care in the Canton

The interprofessional teams at both hospitals consist of doctors, nurses, and therapists. They provide on-site care to patients several times a day. Treatment is provided in close collaboration with primary care physicians, Spitex, retirement and nursing homes, and other partners in the healthcare system. «Hospital at Home» is thus a concrete example of integrated healthcare in the canton of Basel-Landschaft.

«With the new name, we’re making it clearer what the service stands for: high-quality hospital care—right in the patients» familiar surroundings,« says Dr. Severin Pöchtrager, Chief Physician of the »Hospital at Home” department at KSBL.

Studies and experience to date show that receiving treatment in a familiar environment can have a positive effect on well-being, sleep quality, and the recovery process. At the same time, it reduces the risk of hospital-related complications such as severe confusion or infections.

Plans to Expand the Offering

The canton supports the implementation and further development of this innovative approach. KSBL and Klinik Arlesheim plan to gradually expand the program and extend it to their respective service areas before the end of this year. The goal is to provide even more patients with a safe, high-quality, and locally accessible alternative to inpatient hospitalization.

Thomi Jourdan, Member of the Cantonal Government and Director of the Department of Economic Affairs and Health for Baselland: «I am very pleased that »Hospital at Home’ is being further developed as an innovative service by the Arlesheim Clinic and the Baselland Cantonal Hospital. ‘Hospital at Home’ underscores that the future of healthcare must—and will—increasingly be provided on an outpatient basis, in a decentralized manner, and close to where people live. This service is therefore an excellent fit with the strategic objectives of ‘Gesundheit BL 2030.’”

The campaign was rolled out as a DOOH and OOH campaign in the Laufental and Arlesheim regions, as well as on social media. For more information, visit www.spital-zuhause.ch.
