Ten years ago, in December 2015, Roger Meier and Patrick Terreaux founded the Swiss start-up Roomz in Fribourg. The two entrepreneurs had met during an MBA program at EPFL and recognized a gap in the market: Managing meeting rooms was a major challenge at the time, partly due to the cabling requirements of existing solutions.

From ETH to market leader

The founders' vision was clear: they developed an easy-to-install, central, wireless and energy-saving reservation display. ETH Zurich, which was looking for a wireless solution for its 500 rooms, became the first customer. The initial installation of 400 E-Ink Roomz displays took place in 2016, with Fabien Moine joining the team a year later as Head of Sales & Marketing. After successfully building up the company, including as Country Manager of Plantronics, he decided to help shape and implement the vision of the two founders. In the same year, the company changed its name from Setza to Roomz and became active in the Swiss market.

Development into an ecosystem for smart offices

In 2017, Roomz developed sensors for meeting rooms, which are primarily used to avoid so-called "ghost meetings". This was followed in 2020 by the introduction of smart office solutions, including sensors for desks and meeting rooms. The smart desk sensors are used to manage shared workspaces. Within the Roomz ecosystem, occupancy sensors improve workplace utilization and provide workplace analytics to support data-driven facility management decisions. As a result, Roomz continuously won over more and more companies and eventually became the market leader in Switzerland.

The myRoomz app, also developed in 2020, completes the ecosystem and enables companies to manage shared workspaces and implement hybrid working models. Roomz Advanced Analytics was introduced in 2022 to give organizations a better overview of space usage and enable them to make informed decisions and achieve maximum productivity.

Expansion beyond the Swiss borders

Also has been the exclusive Swiss main partner since 2017. The distributor now cooperates with Roomz in numerous countries for the distribution of displays for the professional and flexible booking of meeting rooms and shared desks. The expansion to France, Germany and Austria began in 2018 and was then extended to the UK, Ireland, the Nordic countries and Africa. Roomz's innovative meeting room management technology is distributed through an extensive partner network.

"Our belief in our vision, our values and hard work have paid off. We are very proud to have over 1800 satisfied, long-standing customers beyond the Swiss border and to inspire them with our sustainable and high-quality displays and room management solutions. Our teamwork is also a huge asset and I would like to thank our team of 23 employees today and all our partners and customers for their continued commitment and trust," says Fabien Moine, Head of Sales & Marketing at Roomz.

Executives, employees and facility management appreciate the benefits of Roomz in terms of employee satisfaction, efficiency and flexibility that these new work opportunities offer in the modern working world. Roomz goes beyond traditional meeting rooms, opens up new use cases and hybrid working in companies and thus drives digitalization forward.

"Our long-term goal is to satisfy the growing demand for smarter and more flexible workplace management solutions and to further expand the offering," emphasizes Roger Meier, founder and CEO at Roomz. "We offer a sustainable, wireless solution with our reliable service that is easy to implement and manage and provides unique added value to the market."
