Small steps, big impact: TBS climate campaign for Wallisellen

Wallisellen aims to become climate-neutral by 2050 at the latest. A climate campaign by TBS is raising public awareness and encouraging residents to be more mindful of their diet and consumption habits.

In order to achieve the net-zero target, the town of Wallisellen is launching a campaign to encourage more conscious eating and more sustainable consumption. To this end, Wallisellen residents are to be comprehensively informed and actively involved over a period of several months. The aim is to constructively address the topic by highlighting the connections between consumption and the climate, providing useful and simple tips for everyday life and making effective approaches directly tangible. To this end, a diverse mix of measures was developed around the two main topics of nutrition and consumption.

Small steps, big impact

Many initiatives on this topic fail at the first major hurdle: the feeling that they can achieve practically nothing with their own actions. This is only true if everyone thinks this way. The campaign therefore aims to show how much can be achieved together if the entire population of Wallisellen gets involved. At the same time, it demonstrates with simple tips and real ambassadors that everyone in Wallisellen can contribute to the big vision by making their everyday behavior more climate-friendly with little things. With natural protagonists and a joyful implementation, the aim is to show that more conscious consumption does not require major sacrifices, but ultimately brings a real gain in quality of life.

Protecting the climate is easy

The campaign with the Wallisell climate ambassadors is intended to arouse curiosity and encourage people to get involved: "I can do what they can do". At the same time, the campaign creates identification with the local community and invites the entire population to get involved.

At the content level, the people of Wallisell also encounter a colorful mix of everyday climate topics, surprising facts and useful tips on more conscious consumption.

The content is informative without lecturing. Facts, inspiring approaches and tips for saving money are intended to motivate more conscious consumption and sustainable nutrition. All means of communication and posts on social media lead to the website's info hub, which in turn links to all kinds of other related pages.

Direct call to start

To kick off the campaign, the 2024 climate calendar will be sent to the public by post. It contains all the important information about the events and activities, including a practical seasonal calendar. Relevant climate ambassadors such as schools and parents, clubs and local businesses will be specifically contacted and encouraged to take part. The campaign was also published in the local newspaper Wallisellen Scoreboard and launched on the TV channel "Televista 8304" in order to reach as many contributors as possible.

In addition, climate-friendly approaches for more conscious consumption will be brought to life on three themed days. To kick things off, anti-food waste pioneer Mirko Buri at the Walliseller Früehligsmärt on May 4 to show how leftovers and scraps can be turned into something delicious. The topic of second-hand goods will be discussed at the clothes swap with Walk-in closet can be experienced.
