Jung von Matt and UBS: Customers choose new card design

«UBS—a bank like Switzerland»—with a campaign centered on this tagline, the Swiss financial institution highlighted its origins and mission at the beginning of the year. Now, with the redesign of its bank cards in collaboration with Jung von Matt Limmat, UBS is immortalizing this message on its cards.

Bank cards can also convey a sense of home: For the design of the new UBS bank cards available from 2025, which are intended to bring the claim "UBS - a bank like Switzerland" to life, prints of iconic sections of the Swiss landscape are therefore being used - as identity-forming "fingerprints" of the cultural and topographical diversity of our country.

"It is very important to all of us at UBS that Swiss people can help define which bank cards they will have in their pockets in the future. And that starts with the design," says Aydin Sahin, Head of Marketing & Digital Sales. With this in mind, a project was developed for the development of the design in which the most fascinating places in Switzerland serve as a template for the motifs of the new cards - co-determined by the customers themselves.

Almost 55,000 customers have voted

Almost 55,000 of them responded to this call and voted on the UBS website in February to decide which fascinating spots in Switzerland should be used to design the new UBS debit cards, prepaid cards, Classic, Gold and Platinum credit cards. There were world-famous landmarks such as the Matterhorn to choose from, as well as less well-known but no less fascinating places. In addition to the Matterhorn, these include the Gastlosen, the bottom of Lago di Tomè, the depths of the Rhine Gorge and a section of the Aletsch Glacier. The selection of places is intended to form the beginning of an identity-forming story about our country. Expedition teams are now setting out to capture representative impressions of Switzerland. In this way, UBS wants to show the outside world that it is serious about being a bank like Switzerland. And that it wants to take unusual paths for its clients. The first chapters of this extraordinary campaign will be told at the beginning of 2025.
