Petition launched in support of Telebielingue

A petition was launched on Thursday to oppose the revocation of the license for the Biel-based regional television station Telebielingue. It calls on Federal Councilor Albert Rösti (SVP), head of the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy, and Communications (UVEK), to reconsider the decision.

Within two days, 44 personalities signed the concernas the initiators announced on Thursday. They do not accept the decision of the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM).

A week ago, Bakom awarded the regional TV license for the Biel region to the Canal B television project based in Cortaillod NE. Telebieligue, based in Biel, previously held a license for this region.

After 25 years of experience, Telebielingue knows the needs and broadcast formats that appeal to the audience. In addition, the team always succeeds in giving the region a face, according to the petition. The bilingualism cultivated by Telebielingue is unique and therefore worth preserving.

According to the communiqué, four members of the National Council and ten members of the Bernese Grand Council have signed the petition. Former member of the Council of States and Mayor of Biel/Bienne Hans Stöckli also supports the petition. The petition is intended to show that Telebielingue can count on the support of the population. (SDA)
