Blue News realigns itself

The online news portal Blue News is undergoing a strategic realignment, taking the final step toward becoming a fully converged newsroom. In addition to a new editorial leadership team, the various departments are also being strengthened. Thematically, the main focus remains on news, sports, and entertainment.

Blue News is repositioning itself. "With the new team, our newsroom is taking the final step towards a fully convergent editorial team that covers all channels 360 degrees. As an online medium, Blue News has a central role to play in this universe," explains Claudia Lässer, Chief Product Officer Blue Sport & News.

Editor-in-chief now divided between two pillars

Responsibility for the Blue News editorial team will now be split between the two pillars of "Content" and "Distribution". Stefan Ryser, currently Deputy Editor-in-Chief, will assume the role of Head of Content Blue News and will be responsible for content in accordance with Blue News' journalistic guidelines. Ryser has been with Blue News since 2020. The former advertiser previously worked at Tamedia for more than twelve years, including as a member of the editorial management and creative director of the 20 Minuten Group and as deputy head of Tamedia Editorial Services.

Marius Egger has joined the Blue News editorial team as Head of Distribution. Egger was head reporter and member of the editorial team at 20 Minutes Online, was part of the founding team of Watson where he was Deputy Editor-in-Chief and Editor-in-Chief ad interim. After more than ten years, he will be leaving Watson at the end of January 2024. As Head of Distribution, Marius Egger will ensure the curation, speed, volume and distribution of content on all relevant channels and will play a key role in shaping the journalistic profile of Blue News.

Further reinforcement in the departments

At department management level, Blue News has been able to recruit Michael Wegmann as Head of Sport. The 46-year-old will head up the sports department from January 2024, having previously worked as interim and deputy head of football and as a football reporter at View and Sunday View active. Before that, he worked for years at 20 minuteswhere he was deputy head of sports, and at Sat.1 Switzerland.

Sven Ziegler will also be joining Blue News on February 1, 2024. As editor and chief of service, he will be responsible for news events in Switzerland and around the world. Sven Ziegler was previously at View active.
