Guide: What does the DSA mean for Swiss online providers?

IAB Switzerland has launched a guide to the Digital Services Act. The DSA applies not only to providers within the EU but also to foreign providers offering their services in the EU. This means that Swiss online providers operating in the EU single market must, in principle, comply with the DSA’s requirements, regardless of whether they are based in Switzerland.

IAB SwitzerlandThe European Union wants to better protect its consumers in the digital space with various new laws. The most important law here is the Digital Services Act (DSA). The DSA applies to all providers of "intermediary services" that offer goods, services or content to consumers in EU member states at a distance (i.e. online).

IAB Switzerland provides its members with a guide to the DSA free of charge. Among other things, it explains what Swiss online providers who offer their services in the EU must observe and what obligations they have under the DSA. This provides for different, graduated obligations for different categories of online providers.

The first parts came into force in November 2022, online platforms and search engines have had to publish their transparency reports and their number of active users since February 2023, and the remaining provisions will come into force on February 17, 2024.
