mjm.cc and Great Garbo create acoustic identity for the Swiss Film Award
The national event needed a new acoustic identity and target-group-specific audio branding for the Swiss Film Award brand. Under the motto modular, interdisciplinary, emotional, memorable and adaptable, the corporate identity of the Swiss Film Awards was renewed and expanded as part of the holistic brand management. The project was realized with renowned film and advertising composers and recorded by an orchestra.
mjm.cc, the agency responsible for the Swiss Film Awards for seven years, was commissioned by the federal government to renew the brand. The event needed a new musical look that would represent Switzerland, reflect the significance of the national event acoustically and take into account the fact that it is an annually recurring event. For the audio part of the rebranding, mjm.cc AG brought on board the Swiss composition greats Great Garbo, consisting of the multi-award-winning composer team Diego Baldenweg with Nora Baldenweg & Lionel Baldenweg, who won the Swiss Film Award for Best Film Music for "The Little Witch" in 2018, among others.
On the hunt for the festive catchy tune
The music should be composed in such a way that at the end of the evening you are inspired by a festive catchy tune. For the first stage, a full orchestral solution is used to usher in a new musical era for the Swiss Film Awards. An orchestral suite in five parts was composed for this purpose. Yodeller Nadja Räss opens the suite, accompanied by a full orchestra. The opening horn motif is arranged in such a way that it evokes associations with an alphorn.
Each part serves an important moment in the show, such as the opener, winner's entrance and exit music, suspense music and the "In Memoriam". Each of these compositions has a clear melodic line that can also be reinterpreted in the future. This year the music is orchestral. Next year it could be played by a jazz trio and the year after that by an electro act.
