Salesforce acquires Slack for $27.7 billion

The software group Salesforce wants to make its largest acquisition to date with the takeover of the office communication service Slack. The companies have reached an agreement that values Slack at around 27.7 billion dollars.

This was announced by Salesforce on Tuesday after the close of the US stock exchange. The company also announced its intention to add further functions to Slack. The communication service could thus become a serious competitor to Microsoft Teams.

Slack shareholders will receive 26.79 dollars per share and 0.0776 Salesforce shares, it was also reported. Together, the two companies would shape the future of business software and change the way people work in a digital world, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff enthused. Among other things, Slack is to be integrated into Salesforce products.

Shaping the future of business software

The coronavirus crisis with increased working from home has also given Slack a certain boost in recent months - but not as much as some other services such as the video conferencing provider Zoom.

"Together, Salesforce and Slack will shape the future of enterprise software and change the way everyone works in the all-digital world," Salesforce CEO Benioff added. Slack CEO and co-founder Stewart Butterfield said that both companies share a "vision of reduced complexity, increased performance and flexibility, and ultimately a higher level of adaptability and organizational agility".

The management boards of both companies have already approved the billion-euro deal. The takeover is expected to be completed next year. The authorities and shareholders must first approve the contract. (SDA)
