A damn good font
«The Polite Type» turns even the rudest person into a gentleman. But there's also an important message behind the font's concept.

Hand on heart: we all swear now and then. Especially in the current year, we have every reason to do so. Nevertheless, we should think more often about how we express ourselves. The Finnish company Tietoevry has developed something that is both a font and a "translation tool". "The Polite Type" is intended to help us establish a more acceptable form of expression. The font automatically makes curse words unrecognizable or converts them into a more everyday synonym. On the Homepage the font can be tried out - it only works in English.
But the font is not just intended to get us to swear less. The initiative behind it - implemented in collaboration with TBWA - was launched to raise awareness of the important issue of cyberbullying. Because the way people communicate with each other online is increasingly getting out of control.
