Comics raise awareness for responsible digital behavior

In a national prevention campaign, the fictional Webster family raises public awareness about the sensible and safe use of information and communication technologies (ICT). The illustrations are by Matthias Leutwyler.

Comics

With twelve new comic stories about a normal family that falls into many a trap in the digital world, the public is made aware of the challenges of everyday digital life and the use of information and communication technologies. The comic stories address topics such as fake news, sexting, bullying, image rights, the influence of social media, data protection and smartphone addiction.

Resources for schools and families

The aim of the prevention campaign by various federal agencies and Swiss Crime Prevention is to raise public awareness of responsible online behavior and the healthy use of cell phones, computers and personal data. The comics are intended to serve as a guide for teachers, parents and grandparents in discussions with young people about everyday digital life and offer practical advice.

The comics are published as print brochures and in digital form and are available in the four national languages and in English. The stories are available at Websters.swiss and will be published on an ongoing basis on Instagram. The Digital Switzerland Office at Bakom worked with Swiss illustrator Matthias Leutwyler on the visualization.

Inter-agency campaign

The new edition complements the stories about the Webster family published in 2010 and 2015 and builds on the success of the earlier editions. The first two editions were used for awareness campaigns far beyond national borders (for example in Belgium, Germany, Canada and Bosnia) and translated into other languages.
