Ex-Novartis boss Vasella must delete beef brand

Daniel Vasella loses out to a Spanish charcuterie group in a trademark dispute. This is what the Handelszeitung writes in its current issue.

Daniel Vasella

The ex-Novartis boss wanted to protect the "1901" brand for meat from his farm in Uruguay (logo on the left). However, the Spanish ham producer Comapa was already on the market with the same brand (logo on the right). Vasella therefore had to have his "1901" brand deleted. Since leaving Novartis, Vasella has worked as a farmer and cattle breeder in Urgugay, among other things.
