Away with the smartphone, dear parents

The smartphone can become a problem in the parent-child relationship. An agency from Brazil presents an interesting solution.

More and more frequently, you read in the media about studies that prove the problems of smartphone parents: if mom and dad prefer to stare at the screen instead of devoting their attention to their offspring, this can - unsurprisingly - have negative consequences for the parent-child relationship and even lead to behavioral problems.

The agency NBS has taken a creative approach for the NGO Apê Kids and developed wooden toys that are complemented by the parents' smartphone. The idea is not to give the wood the necessary spice with the digital addition, but to "take away" the parents' cell phone. Because if it is in the toy, it cannot be used and the attention belongs entirely to the child.

At least that's an original idea. What the toy is unlikely to encourage is creativity and imagination. Until now, children have been able to imagine the flashing light on the wooden car or the food in the play oven without any technical assistance. The few years in which people don't stare at a screen all day long could also be granted to them.

Otherwise, a counter-campaign will soon be needed to wrest the smartphone back from the child.
