To the point: Every year again
As every year, there are long faces on the losing side and beaming ones on the winning side after the release of Mach Basic. There are plenty of explanations for this. The losers try to talk down their defeat, while the winners come up trumps.

Sonntag from Wanner was a success with 355,000 readers. But for Patrick Müller, editor-in-chief of the title, that is apparently not enough. In an interview with the Mittelland-Zeitung, he says: "The number of readers of the Sonntagszeitung seems to me to be too high. Everything points to a measurement error, because many Sunday readers refer to our newspaper as a Sunday newspaper in the Wemf survey. I very often receive letters to the editor with the title "Editor-in-Chief Sonntagszeitung". (...) In other words: Effectively, Sonntag has even more than the reported 355,000 readers." Well, well! Doesn't sound entirely implausible, but there is no proof.
Sonntagsblick may have lost significant readers, but the in-house commentary in Blick states: "Even on Sunday, the Blick brand remains ahead by a wide margin. 871,000 readers reach for our sister paper. If you count the readers of the Sonntagsblick magazine, it's well over 1 million." The statement is not entirely wrong, but it ignores two not entirely unimportant aspects: the development over time and the fact that adding the two readerships together results in a gross readership at most.
20 minutes devotes half a page to its success story and proudly announces an increase of 67,000 readers. And to top that, you add the French-speaking part of Switzerland with 20 minutes and you get 1.853 million readers.
The Tages-Anzeiger is quite modest. After suffering a significant loss of seven percent of its readership, it is content with a short report of 13 lines in the "Companies and Markets" section. Did the aggressive online-first concept of Newsnetz contribute to the loss? The new editor-in-chief and the new concept can fix it. We are curious.
For understandable reasons, Cash made no announcement at all. Cash Daily did indeed reach 118,000 readers in the new Mach, the increase over the previous year was an impressive 62 percent. But who cares, since the beginning of this week Cash Daily is no longer published. Tempi passati!
