Bertha Benz on Tour: International Women's Day short film celebrates pioneer woman
To mark International Women's Day, Mercedes-Benz has made a film about the story of Bertha Benz. She undertook the first long-distance trip in a car, thereby contributing significantly to the success of her husband's invention.

Without Bertha Benz, the breakthrough of the automobile would probably have taken much longer - or possibly not even taken place in this form. By paying out her dowry early, Carl Benz's partner not only ensured that her fiancé could continue his three-wheeled invention, but also later dispelled numerous reservations about the automobile among a potential paying clientele with a 106-kilometer drive with her two sons. Benz spent three days on the journey from Mannheim to Pforzheim. The pioneer is considered to be the first person to complete a longer distance in a car.
For International Women's Day, the Berlin agency Antoni Garage dedicated a four-minute short film to an episode from the adventurous journey. When Bertha Benz ran out of fuel on the road, she sought help at a pharmacy. This went down in history as the very first gas station.
