TBWA\Paris declares war on firearms from the 3D printer

3D-printed firearms have long been a reality. The blueprints can be downloaded far too easily from the Internet. What can be done? TBWA\Paris has taken an interesting approach to curb the danger.

Handguns from the printer are a problem. Not only because anyone can download them from the Internet and make them themselves without much prior knowledge. Due to their plastic construction, they are not recognized by metal detectors. They can be taken anywhere and loaded with normal ammunition. Yet another invention that makes mankind wonder whether it was necessary.

As with many problems that spread unchecked and uncontrollably via the internet, the authorities and society are also powerless when it comes to printed weapons. While the usual mechanisms are no longer effective in the dark web at the latest, new, creative approaches can make a difference. Or at least make life difficult for the misguided users.

TBWA downloaded countless print templates and meticulously modified them. So that you can't see the weapons from the outside, but that they no longer work. Harmless weapons that can do no harm. In the end, the blueprint files were painstakingly hidden and placed in the spheres of the internet from which they came. The supposed weapons have already been downloaded 13,000 times. And the frustration of the end user is likely to have been 13,000 times, taking up a lot of time - and making some people want to try again.
