The most popular apps: media, emojis and productivity apps
MOBILE From emoji keyboards to magazines: in 2015, a particularly large number of users worldwide used their mobile devices to read messages, communicate via emojis or check their emails. This was the result of an analysis by Yahoo's mobile analytics service Flurry Analytics.

Emoji keyboards are experiencing a boom: users appreciate emojis to personalize their messages via messaging services.Mobile remains on course for success: the global use of mobile applications rose by 58% overall in 2015. Even though the growth rate declined compared to 2014, it is still above average for an already mature industry. This was primarily due to existing users. With a share of 40% compared to the 18% of new users, they made a particular contribution to the continued success of the mobile sector.Trend towards emoji keyboards, e-mail and shopping appsApps such as lock screens and emoji keyboards were particularly popular. Users appreciate emojis to personalize their messages via messaging services. They thus ensured that the personalization app category grew by 332% year-on-year. In addition, teenagers and students in particular use their mobile device as a substitute for their PC and access emails or productivity applications on the move. Productivity apps recorded an increase of 125 percent in 2015. Mobile commerce is also on a growth trajectory. This was also reflected in the usage behavior of mobile device users. Lifestyle and shopping apps grew by 81% in 2015.Media consumption via phablet particularly popularMoving away from TV and PC to mobile - this trend is reflected in the 135% growth in the news and magazines segment. Phablets in particular are increasingly becoming the device of choice when people access media content on the move. In 2015, news usage via phablet increased around 5.3 times more than on all other mobile devices. In addition, apps from the areas of sport, music and entertainment also benefited in particular from the larger screens of phablets. At the same time, the usage time of phablets as a device category increased by 334%, more than any other mobile device. The larger display - from five inches in diameter upwards - means that phablets are increasingly replacing smaller mobile devices. Phablets already accounted for 27% of devices activated at Christmas 2015. This product class alone accounted for 50% of all Android devices activated at the same time. If this trend continues in 2016, phablets will dominate newly purchased mobile devices by autumn 2016.Flurry Analytics is integrated into the programming code of apps by developers in order to evaluate user behavior. In total, Flurry Analytics measures the use of 2.1 billion mobile devices every month. Looking back, Flurry Analytics analyzed a total of 3.2 trillion app sessions in 2015.
