Lifelogging
BOOK TIP Stefan Selke attempts to objectively describe the topic of lifelogging in his book. How is digital self-tracking changing our society? It is a frightening scenario that is sketched out in this book: a dehumanized world in which data takes the place of perception. To find out where digital self-measurement could lead in the future, Stefan Selke sought out pioneers and gurus of so-called lifelogging, among others; he spoke with testers, experimented himself and analyzed studies. And he repeatedly asked himself whether this change actually meets a human need. Selke remains true to the promise he made at the beginning of the book: He does not demonize lifelogging, but strives to objectively illuminate all facets. It's not just the explosive nature of the topic that makes this book fun to read - it's also superbly written, laced with biting commentary. These are certainly useful, but at one point or another, graphics or illustrations would have been more appropriate to liven things up. In addition, a clearer structure would probably have revealed a few repetitions that unnecessarily inflate the text.
