How should edibles be packaged? IPI seminars provide answers to this question.February 26, 2014IPI Seminar "Biopolymers - Capabilities and limits in Food Packaging Applications".The increasing awareness of sustainable resource management is leading to the development of new packaging materials. Already today, various solutions based on biopolymer materials exist, which are also already used in packaging. This seminar provides answers to questions such as: What are the possibilities and limitations of materials made from biopolymers? Are biopolymers suitable for my packaging application? Are biopolymer materials really ecological? Material developers, packaging designers and manufacturers of packaging machinery will deepen their knowledge of biopolymer materials in packaging applications at this seminar. You will gain insight into the production, characteristics and application possibilities of biopolymers in packaging.February 27, 2014IPI Seminar "Barrier Films for Food Packaging - Selecting and dimensioning of appropriate barriers".Sensitive foods require packaging materials with barrier properties specifically tailored to the product in order to preserve the quality of the product. Depending on the packaged food, the demands on the packaging can be very high. In addition, there are cases where selective permeability is explicitly desired. Barrier properties perfectly adapted to the product are the key to guaranteed product quality and shelf life. But the higher the barrier properties, the more expensive the packaging. Therefore, it is even more important to find the ideal level of barrier protection for the different food products, thus keeping the balance between product protection and cost efficiency. This seminar will help participants find the right barrier materials for their product. Based on different food types and properties of various packaging barriers, they will learn about the most important claims for food packaging. This seminar is aimed at packaging developers of packaging companies as well as R&D staff of packaging film manufacturers.March 13, 2014IPI Seminar "Intellectual PropertyIn times of economic uncertainty and increasing globalization, the importance of patents is growing. Used correctly, they protect against copying attempts, competitors are kept at bay and hard-earned competitive advantages can be secured. However, property rights also represent an immense source of information. They can be used for competitor and market analysis and can help to solve technical problems. They also show the current state of technological development. Last but not least, thanks to the knowledge of third party patents, time can be saved that would otherwise have been needed for the development of own solutions. This seminar provides an overview of the various possibilities for protecting intellectual property in the packaging sector. In addition, participants will learn how to use patents effectively as a source of information for technical knowledge.April 4, 2014IPI Seminar "Packaging from Paper and Board - Innovative and Sustainable".Paper and cardboard are key materials in the packaging industry. A main argument for the use of paper and cardboard is the sustainability aspect. The field of application of these materials is very broad and ranges from secondary and tertiary packaging as boxes and filling material to primary packaging of food and other products. In addition, there are various innovative approaches to the production, coating and finishing of paper and board packaging, which will increase the areas of application in the future. This seminar provides an overview of the technologies for using paper and board for packaging applications. It is aimed at packaging designers, manufacturers of packaging materials and packaging machines who want to know about the latest technological developments and want to learn about the state of the art and future applications of paper and board in the packaging industry.Additional information about these events and other educational offers and services of the IPI International Packaging Institute can be found at www.ipi.eu.
