Rod Stewart fights against plastic as a sea turtle
SodaStream International unveiled a new video campaign on Tuesday that focuses on the global damage caused by single-use plastic bottles. Led by an animated sea turtle, a choir sings the song "Now is the time for change" on a mound of plastic waste. The sea turtle is synchronized by none other than Rod Stewart.

The video shows a singing sea turtle calling on people to take responsibility and only use reusable plastic. The video acts as a metaphor for the green hills and blue oceans that have been littered with plastic waste over the years. "Plastic has become a pandemic whose impact on human health is still unknown. However, the devastating impact on our oceans is already clear," said CEO Daniel Birnbaum. "In this campaign, we wanted to give a voice to marine animals and work with them to encourage people and businesses to switch from single-use plastic to reusable packaging."
Sir Rod Stewart as a sea turtle sings an excerpt from "Ocean of Change" together with Thor "The Mountain" Bjornsson, the young talent Sarah Catherine Hook and a choir of people and sea creatures who have been injured by plastic parts. The song was written especially for the SodaStream campaign: "I love our oceans and marine life. I'm delighted to lend my voice and support to this campaign," said Sir Rod Stewart. "If it helps raise awareness and make simple changes like switching to reusable bottles, then I'm honored to be a part of it." The video was launched alongside the website FightPlastic.com to motivate consumers to move away from single-use plastic. "While one reusable SodaStream bottle can replace thousands of single-use plastic bottles, the world needs to change more than just its drinking habits to combat the global pollution threat. We should all do our best to move away from single-use plastics such as straws, cups, plastic bags and bottles," said Birnbaum. "SodaStream hopes that this campaign will help change people's minds. It's in our hands."
