Homeless Jungle Book animals raise money to buy a palm oil plantation

The "Concrete Jungle" commercial was commissioned by the NGO Sumatran Orangutan Society and makes it clear: animals that actually live in the jungle are losing their homes due to deforestation and slash-and-burn agriculture. Surveillance cameras in cities such as London and Paris capture the pitiful creatures - accompanied by the sad cover version of the legendary "Jungle Book" theme song "The Bare Necessities".

The film is intended to Crowfunding campaign to raise awareness. With a remarkably practical goal: a palm oil plantation that is up for sale is to be purchased for 870,000 pounds and turned back into virgin forest. The area is around 3,500 square kilometers in size and is intended to provide a "new" home for orangutans, among others. The Sumatran Orangutan Society is working together with the Indonesian organization Yayasan Orangutan Sumatera Lestari, which has already planted 1.6 million trees that will eventually become rainforest again. A campaign worth supporting that will hopefully reach its funding target - not least thanks to help from the creative industry. (hae)
