Radio presenter Patrick Hässig is the new face for healthcare professions in the canton of Zurich

"Einsatz Gesundheit" is the name of a new social media channel on which you can now look over the shoulders of people in healthcare professions on a daily basis. Einsatz Gesundheit" is presented by former radio and TV presenter Patrick Hässig. On Instagram and Facebook he provides insights into his day-to-day training as a qualified nursing specialist HF at Waid City Hospital, but also visits other professions and institutions in the healthcare sector.

And suddenly in a class with classmates half her age...

Patrick Hässig, a trained insurance salesman, worked in radio for over 20 years. He hosted the hit parade on SRF 3 and later presented the morning shows for Switzerland's largest private radio stations. He also had his own daily TV show on SRF 1, "Weniger ist mehr".

"Others are stuck in the same format and the same program for 20 or 30 years. But it was always clear to me that I wouldn't just do radio and television for the rest of my life," says Patrick Hässig, looking back on this time. At the age of 38, he got serious and began training as a qualified nursing specialist HF at Waid City Hospital in 2017. Going back to school with 20-year-olds wasn't always easy for him at first: "Of course, people looked at me a bit strangely at first, but that's long gone now." Hässig laughs and says: "Not only am I learning what it means to be a good nurse, but I now also know the latest make-up trends, collect hair ties and treat the broken hearts of fellow students."

Professions at the pulse of life

Patrick Hässig is not an isolated case. More and more people are embarking on a second or third apprenticeship in a healthcare profession. The training and career opportunities are diverse. There are over 20 different training courses, from paramedic to various nursing professions to technical professions such as radiology or surgical technology specialists.

The industry association for vocational training in the healthcare sector in the canton of Zurich (OdA Gesundheit Zürich) would like to draw attention to this variety of exciting professions and provide a realistic view of them. For this reason, it approached Patrick Hässig. "Patrick Hässig is an absolute stroke of luck for our industry," says Heidi Berger, Managing Director of OdA G ZH. "He shows that it is absolutely worth tackling training in the healthcare sector. We are extremely pleased that he will now motivate people to do the same with 'Einsatz Gesundheit'."
