Migros Kulturprozent supports the #Woodvetia campaign and the cause of the Swiss forest. Since April 16, 2018, 100,000 #Woodvetia paper bags have been available for customers' purchases at Migros stores in the city of Zurich. The carrier bags depict the wooden statue of Migros founder Gottlieb Duttweiler in the park in Grüene in Rüschlikon and explain once again why it is important to ask for Swiss wood.

If you want to call a #Woodvetia bag your own, you have to hurry. The tote bags are usually out of stock after a week.

20 Schweizer Holzstatuen eröffnen die Session im Bundeshaus https://www.markt-kom.com/en/kreativity/kampagnen/20-schweizer-holzstatuen-eroffnen-die-session-im-bundeshaus/ Mon, 26 Feb 2018 21:23:06 +0000 https://www.markt-kom.com/?p=96406 10_polo-tt

Switzerland's history is written in the Federal Palace. Anyone entering the parliament building today encountered 20 lifelike and wooden statues of well-known personalities who have helped shape the history of our country in their own unique way. For example, a statue of the famous Alpine painter Giovanni Segantini poses in front of the Bernina painting in the Federal Council Chamber, or the likeness of Alfred Escher in front of his former office as President of the National Council, or the three Swiss women Gilberte de Courgenay, Johanna Spyri and Marie Tussaud join the statue of the three Confederates under the Federal Palace dome.

The sculptures created from Swiss wood are ambassadors of the #Woodvetia - Action for More Swiss Wood campaign created by Rod Kommunikation, which was launched in 2017 by the Federal Office for the Environment and the Swiss forestry and timber industry. The reason for the campaign is the declining demand for Swiss wood. This is having a negative impact on our forest and the local timber industry.

Each wooden figure was carved from a different type of wood by Zurich artist Inigo Gheyselinck. National Councillor Sylvia Flückiger (President of Lignum), National Councillor Daniel Fässler (President of WaldSchweiz) and Paul Steffen (Vice Director FOEN) opened the exhibition and pointed out the importance of an intact timber chain in front of 40 parliamentarians and guests. Fässler: "The wood stocks in the Swiss forest are constantly increasing. Forests that are not regularly rejuvenated absorb less CO2. Old forests are also detrimental to biodiversity. They become more vulnerable to pests and climate events." National Councilor Sylvia Flückiger: "The figures stand with their likeness for a common concern: Make something of the wood that grows in our forests."

The parliamentary services offer free guided tours of the parliament building during the off-session period. They also go into detail about the works of art on display. The public can also freely view the exhibition of statues in the Federal Palace on 16.3.18, the Bern Museum Night, or on 28.4.18, the Federal Palace Open Day.

In the #Woodvetia campaign launched by the Federal Office for the Environment and the Swiss forestry and timber industry, 19 lifelike wooden statues have been exhibited at various locations in Switzerland since January 2017 until today. The campaign aims to raise public awareness of Swiss wood. This is because there is less and less demand for it: wood from abroad is often preferred or domestic wood is not even considered. This, however, has a negative impact on the performance of our forests and on the job situation in the forestry and timber industries. For this reason, the forestry and timber industry and the Federal Office for the Environment FOEN are working together to promote Swiss wood.

On November 9, 2017, Rolf Manser, Head of the Forest Division at the FOEN, National Councillor Sylvia Flückiger, President of Lignum, Swiss Timber Industry, National Councillor Daniel Fässler, President of WaldSchweiz, and timber entrepreneur Gauthier Corbat unveiled the 20th and last statue of the Swiss Wood Figurine Cabinet on Waisenhausplatz in Bern. It is Hildegard Kissling from Aadorf (TG), who was chosen in a public vote. At the same time, the first overall display of the 20 #Woodvetia statues was inaugurated.

1Z5A6561

The artist Inigio Gheyselinck created each statue from a different type of wood. The wood he used came from the region of origin of the person depicted. Thus, the statues represent not only the diversity of our forests, but the entire wood chain, from the forester, sawyer, carpenter to the miller.

The first complete show of the 20 lifelike and life-size figures can now be seen until November 16, 2017 on the Waisenhausplatz in Bern. The Swiss Wooden Figurine Cabinet can also be visited in 2018: At Swissbau (Basel Fair: January 16-20, 2018 ) and at Bad RagARTz (Triennale of Sculpture: May 5-November 4, 2018). Dates and exhibition venues where the #Woodvetia statues can be visited will be announced on Woodvetia.ch continuously updated.

With the #Woodvetia campaign, the Federal Office for the Environment and the Swiss forestry and timber industry want to encourage the Swiss population to choose Swiss wood when building a house or producing a new piece of furniture. This is because demand for Swiss wood is falling - and this is having a negative impact on local forests. The lead agency is Rod from Zurich.

On Tuesday, September 19, the statue of the legendary clown Dimitri was presented to the public in Ascona. The statue, made of Swiss wood was unveiled on the shores of Lake Maggiore by his wife Gunda and their daughter Masha Dimitri. Clown Dimitri passed away in July 2016 in the Ticino municipality of Borgnone. (hae)

Rod has already had 19 figures of well-known personalities sculpted in Swiss wood by artist Inigo Gheyselinck. "Now we are looking for the model for the last figure, the 20th," says the current #Woodvetia advertisement. "This could be you. Or your grandmother. Or your neighbor. Take part in our competition and let us know who deserves to become a Swiss wood legend."

Werbewoche: How does the competition work?

Regula Bührer Fecker: We invite Mr. and Mrs. Swiss to show us why exactly he or she should be immortalized in wood. Interested parties can take part in a photo competition by uploading an unusual selfie of themselves with a Swiss tree.

What can the winner expect?

The winner will be carved out of Swiss wood by artist Inigo Gheyselinck and will become the final figure of the campaign. Inigo Gheyselinck will sculpt a clay head of the winning person, scan the body and model everything in 3D. A CNC milling machine will then cut the template out of the wood before the figure is carved by the artist's hand. The wood from which the winning figure is carved comes from an elm tree. The artist has already carved 19 figures of personalities from Switzerland's past and present and exhibited them throughout Switzerland.

What do you hope to gain from the competition?

That as many people as possible in Switzerland get to grips with Swiss wood, think about where they can ask for it and demand it. And that they feel like immortalizing themselves artistically in this wonderful raw material.

woodvetia-polo

What did you organize in advance?

We sat down with 20 Minuten and organized the campaign, the elm tree was prepared by the artist, and the group exhibition of all 20 figures has already been organized. Now we just need the 20th figure.

What does the cooperation with 20 Minuten look like?

Cross-media and intensive, we work very closely together for a broad impact.

What conclusions can you draw shortly before the end of the campaign?

We have to draw the conclusion at the very end. At the moment we are highly satisfied with the effect - Swiss wood is being talked about and reported on, people are engaging with it. The campaign has generated coverage in national, regional and local media. The forestry and timber industry is euphoric and is doing everything in its power to convince consumers of the benefits of Swiss wood. #Woodvetia is talked about, liked and lived. And that was the goal right from the start.

If you want to take part, you can get 20min.ch more information.

Gottlieb Duttweiler in the Park in the Green in Rüschlikon

On Tuesday, Herbert Bolliger (President of the General Management of Migros) and Marc Chardonnens (Director FOEN) and Christoph Starck (President of Lignum) presented the statue of the entrepreneur and politician Gottlieb Duttweiler in Rüschlikon. There the statue stands in the park in the green. It is already the 16th sculpture that has been made accessible to the public as part of the campaign for more Swiss wood. The wooden figure of the Zurich native was made from a 100-year-old yew tree that comes from Zurich's local mountain, the Uetliberg. The president of Migros is delighted that Duttweiler is standing in wood and resin in the Green Park in Rüschlikon: "For me, today is a special day. Because I have never been asked to unveil a statue before. The fact that it is the figure of the historical personality with whom I have had the closest relationship throughout my professional life pleases me immensely."

The legendary entrepreneur and politician laid the foundation for his great successes in 1925, when he started five sales carts of his Migros with products for daily needs. In 1941, Gottlieb Duttweiler founded the Migros Genossenschaft (Migros Cooperative), which is still the largest retail trade company in Switzerland today. With his visionary foresight, but also his sense of social responsibility, "Dutti" had a decisive influence on the country's recent economic history.

The creation of Gottlieb Duttweiler's statue was documented in the following short film:

Stress in the monkey house of the zoo in Zurich

On Monday, July 10, 2017, Stress, Hans Rupli (President Holzbau Schweiz) and Robert Zingg (Senior Curator Zoo Zurich) presented the 13th #Woodvetia figure at Zurich Zoo. The zoo was chosen as the location because, like Stress, it is strongly committed to the preservation and protection of natural habitats. The musician is delighted with his #Woodvetia statue: "Of course I'm honored to have been carved in wood. I didn't want a tree to be cut down for me at first, until it was explained to me that timber harvesting is very important for a healthy forest. I hope our wooden statues can stand as a symbol of this and encourage people to buy more Swiss wood. In this way, we can all help to keep the Swiss forest healthy as a place of balance, a habitat for numerous animal and plant species, and also as an employer."

The wood used for the statue of Stress comes from a birch tree in Lausanne, where Stress lived and had his first successes as a musician. The birch is a small reference to the artist's original homeland, Estonia. There, the birch is the most common deciduous tree and is sung about in numerous traditional songs and stories.

Simon Ammann at Zurich Airport

On Tuesday, May 30, 2017, Christoph Starck, Director of Lignum Switzerland, and Sonja Zöchling Stucki, Head of Corporate Communications at Zurich Airport, presented the tenth #Woodvetia statue in Kloten. The statue depicts Simon Ammann, the legendary ski jumper and multiple Olympic gold medal winner. His wooden figure, made from a spruce tree from Toggenburg, was unveiled by the athlete himself on the Visitors' Terrace B at Zurich Airport. The location at the airport is a small reference to the licensed private pilot Simon Ammann and to the battle cry of his fans that has become famous: "Fly, Simi, fly!"

In August 2017, the #Woodvetia statue will be transferred to the Chäserrugg in Toggenburg. "The fact that my sculpture stands on the visitors' terrace of Zurich Airport brings back fond memories for me. This is where the fans warmly welcomed me after I won my first two Olympic gold medals. A moment I will never forget," said Simon Ammann at the unveiling of his statue.

Polo on the Blüemlisalp

On Tuesday, May 16, 2017, Thomas Lädrach, President of Holzindustrie Schweiz, and Roger Schmidt, Head of the Forestry Office of the Canton of Bern, will already present the 9th #Woodvetia figurine in Oberhofen on Lake Thun. The statue, made from a silver fir from Interlaken, depicts Polo Hofer, the legendary artist and father of Swiss dialect rock. His wooden figure will be unveiled by Hofer himself at 12:00 noon on the jetty. Afterwards, the statue will be installed on the course ship "Blüemlisalp" - as a reference to the place of action in Polo Hofer's mega hit "Alperose". On the "Blüemlisalp" it can be admired by passengers until this fall.

Polo Hofer is delighted about the statue: "This is a great honor and a fantastic feeling. I am carved from the right wood - a Bernese silver fir! The campaign is a good thing and I like the figure very much. Inigo Gheyselinck did a fantastic job!" Hofer has a close relationship with wood, he says: "I practically grew up surrounded by Swiss wood, namely in the forest. So I'm actually a jungle kid. Even as a seven-year-old boy scout, I spent entire weekends in the forest."

Alfred Eschers erste Fahrt durch «seinen» Gotthard-Tunnel https://www.markt-kom.com/en/kreativity/kampagnen/alfred-eschers-erste-fahrt-durch-seinen-gotthard-tunnel/ Mon, 20 Feb 2017 19:24:37 +0000 https://www.markt-kom.com/?p=84169 holzescher

Switzerland owes a great deal to Alfred Escher, the railroad pioneer born in Zurich in 1819. But he was one of the co-founders of the forerunners of today's ETH, Credit-Suisse and SwissLife. To this day, Switzerland's connection to its neighboring countries in terms of transport policy is of utmost importance. The Gotthard Tunnel, in particular, was already considered a work of the century during Escher's lifetime. However, the passage through his life's work was denied to the entrepreneur, politician and visionary pioneer, as he died in 1882 before its completion. The #Woodvetia figure of Alfred Escher was mounted in an SBB passenger coach on Monday, February 20, and then passed through the Gotthard Tunnel on its first journey. After that, the wooden figure will travel throughout the country until the end of the year.

The #Woodvetia figure by Alfred Escher was created from Swiss wood. The approximately 150-year-old oak comes from Regensdorf. More precisely, it comes from a safety lumberyard right next to the SBB tracks. The choice of wood is a tribute to the Zurich railroad pioneer. In his time, railroad sleepers were made exclusively of oak.

The #Woodvetia campaign aims to strengthen the demand for Swiss wood (Werbewoche.ch reported). At the center of the awareness campaign launched by the forestry and timber industry and the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) are life-size figures of important Swiss personalities. These are each made from a type of wood that comes from the region of origin of the person portrayed. Zurich artist Inigo Gheyselinck creates the statues with the involvement of various partners from the forestry and timber industries. Foresters, sawyers and carpenters are among those involved in the artistic process. The selection of the statues was made by a jury consisting of representatives of the forest and wood industry as well as the FOEN. Johanna Spyri dedicated her stories to "children and also those who like children". That is why Spyri's figure is exhibited in a place that is close to the setting of the Heidi novel and where countless children pass by to experience the beauty of the Grisons mountains with their own eyes during their vacations: At the Heidiland freeway service station.

001_Johanna_SpyriAnuk_Steffen

The statue will be inaugurated by Anuk Steffen. The Chur native played herself into the hearts of the numerous viewers in last year's movie in the role of "Heidi".

Heidi author Spyri

Johanna Spyri was born in Hirzel ZH in 1827. Her writing talent was encouraged early on by an acquaintance of her family. In 1879, "Heidis Lehr- und Wanderjahre" (Heidi's Years of Learning and Wandering) was published, set on an alp above Maienfeld in the Bündner Herrschaft. According to legend, Spyri came up with the story during a walk in Jenins. She put it down on paper in just a few weeks, creating one of the world's most popular and successful books for children and young adults to this day. Heidi has been translated into over 50 languages and made into a film over 10 times. Spyri thus achieved worldwide fame.

002_Johanna_SpyriAnuk_Steffen

The figure of Johanna Spyri was created from a Scots pine from Maienfeld in collaboration with the higher technical college of southeastern Switzerland. The tree used was already in the forest during Spyri's lifetime and is 175 years old.

The campaign Woodvetia

With the campaign Woodvetia (Advertising week reported), the demand for Swiss wood is to be strengthened. The focus of the awareness campaign launched by the forestry and timber industry and the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) is on life-size figures of important Swiss personalities. These are each made from a type of wood that comes from the region of origin of the person portrayed. In 1931, the Basel-born engineer and physicist was the first person to successfully reach the stratosphere in a gas balloon. In 1932, he repeated the journey and climbed even higher: to 16,940 meters (geometric measurement). However, Auguste Piccard did not seek out these extremes out of a thirst for adventure, but purely out of an interest in research. For example, his measurements of cosmic radiation in the stratosphere enabled him to prove the theorems of his friend Albert Einstein.

1_Bertrand_Auguste_2

Around twenty years later - he was now one of the most famous physicists of his time - Auguste Piccard achieved another record in the opposite direction: off the coast of Italy in the Tyrrhenian Sea. In 1953, Piccard and his son Jacques were the first to dive to a depth of 3,150 meters. Here, too, the focus was on research.

1_Bertrand_Auguste_DeQuattro

The #Woodvetia figure of Auguste Piccard is carved from a wood that suits him very well due to its properties: Alder is often used in model making due to its lightness and often in hydraulic engineering thanks to its resistance to moisture. For example, the houses of the pile dwellers were built on alder trunks. As Auguste Piccard was born in Basel, an alder from Allschwil (BL) was used. The tree is 70 years old and was already standing in the forest during Piccard's lifetime.
