The new CLA was negotiated as part of the relicensing process for the period 2025-2034. Licensed radio stations had to commit to the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM) to industry-standard working conditions. The industry agreement 25 sets out the standards for this. The newly licensed radios Vostok (Unikom) and Gwendalyn (Corall) are now also covered by the CLA.

The minimum wage for employees in the sector will rise from CHF 4,700 to CHF 5,050 per month for 13 monthly salaries. Employees working a 42-hour week will now receive six weeks' vacation, compared to five weeks for those working 40 hours. In addition, binding measures have been introduced to protect personal privacy, which must be set out in personnel regulations. Interns will also be included in the CLA in future, although wages are still being negotiated between the social partners.

Not all local radio stations are part of the agreement. Radio Toxic.fm will no longer be represented in the industry agreement, and Radio X did not take part in the negotiations. They will continue to be subject to the working conditions for private radio stations, which include a 13th month's salary and pension fund contributions from the first franc earned.

The social partners see the new CLA as an important step towards fair working conditions in the media sector. It should contribute to quality assurance in the sector and create a sustainable basis for media professionals in the local radio stations concerned.

Neuer Name und neue Mitglieder für den Verband Unikom https://www.markt-kom.com/en/markom/neuer-name-und-neue-mitglieder-fuer-den-verband-unikom/ Tue, 17 Sep 2024 11:12:48 +0000 https://www.markt-kom.com/?p=223486

Today, most Unikom members still make "classic" radio. And linear radio is holding its own compared to other traditional media genres. amazingly good. But the internet and streaming are changing everything here too. The radio landscape is undergoing a similar upheaval to that already experienced by record companies and publishers. Organizers of exclusively linear radio stations are becoming rarer, while on-demand offerings and podcasts are becoming increasingly important.

As an association, Unikom therefore also wants to make itself fit for the future: All audio media that operate independently of the large national and international media companies and platforms can now join. Training, marketing and technology service providers for radio and audio media can also join the association as "affiliates". The association "Unikom - Association of Independent Radios and Audio Media" now brings together all these independent players for mutual benefit.

This means that the core element of the association is and remains "audio". However, it now represents the common interests of broadcasters of independent radio and audio media, as well as audio and podcast producers. In addition, Unikom continues to advocate media diversity, participative, locally anchored forms of media, freedom of expression, secure funding for its members and the training of media professionals.

Mehrheit der komplementären Radios verlässt den Verband https://www.markt-kom.com/en/medien/mehrheit-der-komplementaeren-radios-verlaesst-den-verband/ Mon, 11 Sep 2023 13:10:46 +0000 https://www.markt-kom.com/?p=202689

The majority of complementary licensed radio stations are leaving their association Unikom. The reason is that Unikom has opened its doors to local radio stations without a license. The latter meanwhile took over the majority in the association and voted out all representatives of the complementary radio stations from the board. The voting out and the rejection of all proposals of the complementary, non-profit licensed radios took place at the delegates' meeting at the end of April, as six radios jointly announced on Monday.

Since nothing can be done about the new majority situation, they no longer see a future for Unikom. The relationship of trust with the board of directors no longer existed. Therefore, Kanal K (Aarau), Radio 3fach (Lucerne), Radio Rabe (Berne), Radio Rasa (Schaffhausen), Radio Stadtfilter (Winterthur) and toxic.fm (St. Gallen) announced their resignation on September 30. In doing so, they followed Radio X, which had already left at the general meeting. With Radio X, they want to reorganize in order to have a common representation of interests.

Take minorities into account

Complementary, non-profit radios in agglomerations have a mandate to take particular account of the linguistic and cultural minorities in their broadcast area. In return, they receive a right of access: operators of DAB+ platforms and cable networks must broadcast their programs. Unlike the complementary ones, radio broadcasters subject to registration do not have a performance mandate and do not need a license. (sda)

Der Radioverband Unikom hat einen neuen Vorstand gewählt https://www.markt-kom.com/en/medien/der-radioverband-unikom-hat-einen-neuen-vorstand-gewahlt/ Mon, 15 Jun 2020 08:43:50 +0000 https://www.markt-kom.com/?p=122395 Unikom

At the 2017 general meeting, it was decided to open up Unikom to the new DAB+ radios. A year later, a "Notifiable radios" group and a "Complementary radios" group were set up for this purpose.

The 23 radio stations subject to reporting requirements are start-up radio stations that are mainly commercially oriented in order to at least cover their costs. They broadcast their programming via DAB+ and are working on new business models (events, sponsorship, advertising, crowdfunding, subscriptions, etc.). The group of nine non-profit complementary radio stations such as 3fach, LoRa and RaBe broadcast their stations via FM and DAB+ and fulfill a performance mandate.

Unikom currently has 32 members, making it the largest radio association in Switzerland. The 23 radio stations subject to registration are popular music radio stations for all tastes or moderated cultural, sports or church radio stations for Swiss or foreigners living here.

Board elections

The General Assembly elected a Board of Directors that also takes into account the new interests resulting from the expansion of the association and integrates multilingualism.

Board of Directors:

  • Judith Grosse, PR manager of Radio LoRa, was re-elected and represents the interests of the complementary local radio stations.
  • Simone Ruckstuhl, Managing Director of Radio 3fach, was newly elected to the Board and represents the concerns of the complementary local radio stations.
  • Vanessa Esteves, Radio Vostok, was newly elected to the Board and represents the interests of non-profit radio stations in French-speaking Switzerland.
  • Dany Hofmann, operator of IP music and entrepreneur (IP worldcom, Decibel SA, Dabcom) was newly elected to the Board and represents the commercial interests of the radio stations in French-speaking Switzerland that are subject to mandatory reporting.
  • Giuseppe Scaglione, operator of My105, was newly elected to the Board and represents the commercial interests of DAB+ radio stations in German-speaking Switzerland and Ticino.
  • Armin Köhli, Managing Director of the Klipp+Klang radio school, was newly elected to the Board and represents the interests of radio training.
  • Thomas Gilgen, operator of Open Broadcast Radio and Digris, was re-elected. He is the contact person for innovative technologies (DAB+, archive, streaming) and for digital migration.

Lukas Weiss, former President of UNikom, is stepping down after 25 years. Patrick Studer has also stepped down because there is not enough time available for the honorary position.

Erster Branchenvertrag im Bereich der Privatradios https://www.markt-kom.com/en/medien/erster-branchenvertrag-im-bereich-der-privatradios/ Thu, 19 Jun 2014 09:00:30 +0000 https://www.markt-kom.com/?p=62007

The industry agreement will enter into force on July 1, 2014. The conclusion of this industry agreement is the result of respectful social partnership discussions and negotiations between representatives of Unikom, the SSM and the member radio stations at the beginning of this year, the contractual partners said in a statement. "Together, we have defined minimum standards for working conditions that we believe must not be undercut." At a time when working conditions in the media industry are tending to deteriorate, Unikom and the SSM are sending a signal to the entire industry, the statement continues. Fair working conditions are necessary and possible. "Not least, they have a decisive influence on the quality of journalistic work."

The SSM continues to advocate collective regulation of working conditions and collective employment contracts for all employees in the private radio and television station sector, the press release continues. The conclusion of the industry agreement with Unikom is a first milestone on this path.
