When students don't just tell their stories in the seminar room, but on regional television during prime time, theory becomes practice. With the TV series "Medienmacher:innen", multimedia students from the University of Applied Sciences Graubünden bring their own film reports to regional television. This is the first time they have tested their journalistic skills under real conditions - from brainstorming and production to broadcasting to a wide audience.
The project provides an insight into the training of budding media professionals and shows how diverse and relevant student journalism can be. Each issue presents a film report that was created as part of the "Audiovisual Storytelling" module in the second semester. Although the format of the classic film report is predetermined, the topics reflect the individual interests and journalistic approaches of the students.
The topics range from cycle-oriented training in competitive sport to everyday life in a wheelchair and the fascination of the "Töfflibuebe". The result is stories that are close to the people of the region and make different worlds visible.

The switch to a professional TV environment was a special moment, says student Jennifer Derrer: "We recorded the presentations under real production conditions in the TV Südostschweiz studio. The quality standards were correspondingly high."
The Multimedia Production course focuses on practical relevance. The "Medienmacher:innen" project, which was developed in close cooperation with the Somedia media company, makes this aspiration a reality. The students gained practical experience and learned how to deal with professional processes and standards. TV Südostschweiz, in turn, has gained an insight into the working methods, choice of topics and narrative forms of the next generation of media professionals.
"We find it exciting to give the young generation a voice on TV Südostschweiz with this format," says Stefan Nägeli, Head of Audio/Video at Somedia. "The videos are well realized and we also enjoyed working with the students."
At the end of their Bachelor's degree in Multimedia Production, students will have acquired interface skills in the field of multimedia design and production. A wide range of career opportunities are open to them in a lively, creative and diverse working environment or in their own start-up. The joint degree program is offered jointly by the UAS Graubünden and the Bern University of Applied Sciences, Department of Bern University of the Arts.
The TV series "Medienmacher:innen" is broadcast on Thursdays at around 18:45 on TV Südostschweiz. The nine episodes will run from March 5 to April 30, 2026.

Mountains - fatal fascination
After various fatal mountain accidents in recent weeks, the theme of the first program is: Mountains - fatal fascination. Hikers, snow sports enthusiasts, mountaineers: several million people are drawn to the Swiss mountains every year. With fatal consequences. Mountain sports claim dozens of lives and lead to tens of thousands of accidents. Rescuers are challenged. Where do the greatest dangers lurk? Südostschweiz journalist Pesche Lebrument talks to Romano Pajarola, long-time head of piste and rescue at Parsenn, and Monique Walter from the Swiss Council for Accident Prevention.

Demolition and departure. Tele Südostschweiz has been broadcasting from a former print shop in Bonaduz for eight years. But "Do bin i dahai" is now a thing of the past. The TV station is getting a new home in the freshly completed Somedia media building on Chur's Rossboden. While the old studio is being demolished to make way for a new building, the new studio in the Graubünden capital already smells of fresh paint. However, television is to get more than just an outer coat of paint.

This changes
The name also changes with the move: Tele Südostschweiz becomes TV Südostschweiz. When the spotlights are switched on for the first time in the new studio, which extends over two floors, not least the news will shine in a new light.
"Südostschweiz informs" reports for around 20 minutes on what is happening in the entire concession area. This covers the canton of Graubünden, large parts of the St. Gallen Rhine Valley, Sarganserland and the shores of Lake Zurich. The sports section in particular will be expanded. The Glarner Nachrichten, which was previously broadcast separately, will be integrated into the new magazine. The four-person editorial team in Glarus will remain in place. The premiere of the new program is on Tuesday, March 24, from 6 p.m. onwards.
Planners, technicians, designers, graphic artists, musicians and journalists have been working for months on the station with the new name. All programs and the station's look have been completely overhauled. Starting in late summer, new magazines will also be added to the program. In the coming weeks, the station will also switch to the high-definition format HD. The exact timing depends on the respective distribution company through which viewers receive their TV channels. Private television can now be received nationwide via the major cable network operators.
15 years TSO
Tele Südostschweiz (TSO) went on the air for the first time at the Gehla autumn fair in Chur. Klaus Huber, then president of the Graubünden government, and Thomas Domenig, president of Gehla, served as godparents at the end of August 1999. However, the station was still in a test phase. It really got going on January 10, 2000 with daily news from the region. The first magazine show was "Love Sofa", in which presenter Andrea Ullius focused on the love lives of the people of Graubünden. Andrea Masüger, now head of Somedia, contributed more serious topics with his political talk show "Masüger". TSO changed its broadcasting dress and location several times. The private television station was based in Sennwald (St. Gallen), Chur and finally in Bonaduz. In the past eight years, the station has tripled its audience figures under the program management of Pesche Lebrument. Today, over 60'000 people tune in every day. TV Südostschweiz broadcasts over 30 different in-house productions and third-party formats. This year, the station celebrates its 15th anniversary.
