Every year, the Swiss Packaging Institute presents the Swiss Packaging Award in recognition of outstanding achievements in the packaging industry. The aim of the competition is to showcase the creativity and innovative strength of the Swiss packaging industry. Companies can submit their packaging solutions in the categories of sustainability, convenience, design, marketing, technology / construction / machine solutions and reusable packaging / systems.
The 55th Swiss Packaging Award was hosted by Philippe Dubois, President of the SVI, together with jury president Stefan Jüde. This year, a total of 37 packaging solutions were submitted by 25 different participants. The sustainability category was again particularly well represented with 20 submissions. This reflects the demands of the times: packaging companies must develop recyclable, reusable and recyclable packaging - the submissions show that they are tackling this with pioneering solutions.
The Audience Award, sponsored by the Empack packaging trade fair, went to Andreas Kopp with the "King Penguin with pull-out mechanism" packaging solution for the customer Jakobs Basler Leckerly / Basel Zoo. The audience award is voted for by consumers, not the jury.
SVI Managing Director Andreas Zopfi referred to the high innovative strength of the Swiss packaging industry and congratulated the sector on its progressive and goal-oriented approach to sustainable packaging solutions. The winners of the Swiss Packaging Award automatically qualify to take part in the World Star Award of the World Packaging Organization.

The Audience Award has been presented since 2003 as an additional special award as part of the Swiss Packaging Awards, which the Swiss Packaging Institute SVI will host for the 56th time in 2024. In this award, the public decides who wins, not the jury. Voting has been possible online since Thursday. This time there are 14 packages to choose from. The main sponsor of the audience award is the Empack packaging trade fair.
The Swiss Packaging Award is the flagship of the Swiss packaging industry and is intended to reflect the creativity and innovative strength of the Swiss packaging industry. The winners also receive a ticket to take part in the international packaging competition "World Star Award".
37 innovative packaging solutions were submitted this year, including six entries for the Young Talent Award. In the six main categories, sustainability is ahead of all others with 20 entries and shows how intensively packaging companies are working on developing sustainable packaging solutions that meet consumer requirements and political guidelines. The judging will take place on September 10 and the award ceremony on October 17.

The submission deadline for the Swiss Packaging Award 2024 has expired. In recent years, the SVI has received an average of 45 to 50 submissions per year. This year, there have only been 27 entries so far. Of these, 7 entries were for the Young Talent Award. Winners and nominees benefit from a high profile among their employees and customers. The below-average participation can therefore not be attributed to the value of the award, writes the SVI in the press release. Research and telephone calls by the SVI have shown that companies have to take care of their day-to-day business in these turbulent times. Staff shortages, price wars and the regulatory madness are currently preventing departments from focusing on innovation as usual.
The SVI understands the companies' situation. For this reason, the SVI has decided to suspend the Swiss Packaging Award 2024 and continue it in the summer. What does this mean? The SVI will reopen the submission window in June, week 26, and will once again motivate the industry to take part.
The award ceremony will now take place on October 17. The date has been chosen so that it is still possible to submit the winning packaging to the World Packaging Award. Despite the circumstances, the SVI is confident that the interruption is the right decision. The Swiss Packaging Award is and will remain the innovation window for the Swiss packaging industry.

The submission window for the Swiss Packaging Award 2024 has been extended by one week until February 28, 2024. The reason, according to the organizers: Empack has shown that there are still many innovations that have not yet found their way to the Swiss Packaging Award.

Young talents are also called upon to enter their packaging ideas in the Swiss Packaging Award: For pupils and students, participation is free of charge. They will be judged by the jury in the corresponding category. The prerequisite is that the products have not been launched on the market.

In a judging process lasting two days, a jury of 16 experts will nominate up to three packages per category, from which a winner will be chosen.
